On Friday, Aug. 18, at 2:20 p.m., Atlantic City Police Officers Troy Grams and Michael Regalbuto observed a Kia Rio traveling in the area of the 1200 block of Drexel Avenue.
The Kia had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
The officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop when the vehicle sped off leading the officers on a pursuit. The driver, 14, led officers to Route 30 where he proceeded to drive westbound. As the vehicle was leaving Atlantic City, the officers terminated the pursuit. Shortly after, the vehicle was observed slowing down. Officers learned that this stolen vehicle had a history of overheating if driven at certain speeds.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle exited the vehicle while it was still in motion.
The driver was found in possession of four USB cables and two screwdrivers. He was also found to have an active warrant for his arrest. The passenger was in possession of a screwdriver. These items are common tools in the theft of certain Hyundai and Kia-style vehicles, police said.
